All that Canmore has to offer - An Insiders Guide

As we gear up for NORTH51, I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome you to Canmore, nestled in the stunning Rocky Mountains. While we’ll have plenty of thought-provoking sessions and networking opportunities, I also want to make sure you get a taste of what makes this place so special. From breathtaking hikes to cozy eateries, there’s no shortage of things to see and do. Here’s your insider’s guide to making the most of your time in Canmore and beyond.

Getting Outdoors

Canmore is a paradise for outdoorsy folk! The trails surrounding the little mountain town will give you a sense of the abundance of Alberta’s natural beauty.

Grassi Lakes Hike - A perfect, easy-grade hiking trail, 4.3 kilometers long, with gradual elevation gains, offers crystal-clear turquoise lakes, and sweeping views of Canmore and the surrounding Kananaskis Valley.

Ha Ling - For those seeking a bit more challenge, Ha Ling Peak delivers. For the 3.5 km trail to the saddle is well maintained, but the final push to the summit takes you through loose, rocky terrain. The panoramic views from the top? Absolutely worth every step.

Eat & Drink

After a long day on the trails or exploring the town, it is only right to reward yourself with a pint and a bite!

Rocky Mountain Bagel Company - Whether you need a quick breakfast or a mid-day pick-me-up, this is the go-to! They serve fresh, warm bagels and have a great brew.

The Bankhead Restaurant and Lounge - With a locally inspired menu, this is a great restaurant is for a relaxing evening meal.

The Grizzly Paw - This is another go-to, especially after a long hike when you're craving a cold, crisp refreshment. With locally brewed beers and sodas, the Grizzly Paw serves pub-style comfort food - I personally recommend the pulled pork! You can also book a brewery tour for a behind-the-scenes look at their craft brewing process.

Iron Goat - On the other side of the highway is Iron Goat, which offers delicious food and some of the most stunning views of the Rockies, especially the Three Sisters. Its cozy atmosphere is the best for winding down after a long day and watching the sunset over the mountains.

Shop Local

Canmore’s local shops are a treasure trove of unique finds, perfect for a keepsake of your NORTH51 experience. Check out Stonewaters for artisanal home decor and locally crafted treasures, or stop by the Canmore Tea Company to pick up a taste of the mountains. Take in the fresh mountain air and take a stroll downtown to uncover even more hidden gems.
